5 End of School Tips for Surviving

The end of the year is so close for some of you! There are so many things to keep top of mind during this time of year, too. You may be thinking, “Can I survive? I need some end of school tips to help me make it!” It’s the time of year when you are exhausted, worn out, your brain hurts, and the kids can easily go crazy in the blink of an eye. Let’s talk about 3 end of school tips I always keep in mind as the end of the school year is coming close.

5 End of School Tips and Ideas with list

1. Change things up.

I have written before about how fabulous my mentor teacher was during student teaching. She always had tricks up her sleeve to try out, especially end of school tips! One day I came in and there was a huge ladybug on the board made out of construction paper who was missing its black dots. We had had some rough days recently when it come to classroom management and behavior and she had created a new behavior incentive. This cost nothing but 5 minutes of time!

As the kids were caught doing great things that day, they were able to write their name on a ladybug dot and place it on the ladybug. When the ladybug was full, the class earned a reward. It worked fabulously.  Change things up. Be a rebel. ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. Go all out for a big themed day!

If being “extra” is totally your thing, then set up a Bubble Gum Day or a Reading Camp Day that is filled with extra fun! This is one of my favorite end of school tips!

While these days, bring about excitement, they also can remain purposeful with having academic themed activities that help wrap up the year. You can even work together with your team and have kids do 1 themed day activity in your classroom and rotate through the other classrooms for other activities. Sometimes, moving to a new location is all we need to help us get the wiggles out and stay engaged for a day of learning again!

3. Be annoyingly excited about EVERYTHING!

I know, I know, sometimes it’s just hard to be super excited about something, but do it.  When you are excited about something they will be, too.

Indoor recess again because it looks like Noah’s Ark will be flowing down the street any minute?

Be excited!

A new set of spelling words with a new spelling rule?

Be excited!

Time for a whole group math lesson?

Pump it up!

It makes a difference. Plus, when the kids are excited to learn something, you will feed off of that. Be sure to add this to your bag of end of school tips and tricks!

4. Implement an ABC Countdown.

This is a simple way to make the last 26 days of school have a little “extra”, but with light lifting! No need to have a full classroom transformation if you don’t want to. But this gives the students and yourself a little something extra to look forward to!

5. Take care of yourself.

This should go without saying, but you’re a teacher. You are selfless.  You put 22 little ones before yourself all day. You use the restroom once a day. Scarf your lunch. Get there early. Leave late. You are exhausted.

Here are some end of year tips for taking care of yourself:

  • Read a book at night.
  • Take an extra long shower. (We all know we do our best thinking there!)
  • Go for a run or walk.
  • Listen to some music.
  • Spend time with Jesus every morning to refresh your soul.
  • Take care of yourself!

I hope you have a wonderful time with your little friends! In a few short weeks you will miss seeing their sweet faces everyday!
