Are you looking for an exciting and engaging way to introduce math concepts to your Kindergarten, first grade, or second grade class? Look no further than math games with cards! Not only are these games fun and entertaining, but they also help children develop essential math skills. Number recognition, counting, and basic operations are easily practiced with fun math games with cards!

In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the best math games with cards for kindergarten and first grade kids, and discuss how they can benefit your child’s learning and development. So, get ready to shuffle up and deal, and let’s get started!

Math Games with Cards: Add It Up or Subtraction Action

One of the most fun and simple math games with cards is “Add It Up or Subtraction Action”. This game only requires a deck of cards and can be played by two or more players. In this game, each player turns over two cards and adds or subtracts them together, depending on the chosen method. The player with the highest sum or the smallest difference wins all the cards. For an added challenge, players can turn over three cards instead of two. “Add It Up or Subtraction Action” is a fun and engaging way to help kids practice their addition and subtraction skills while having a blast with friends and family.

Math Games with Cards: Place Value War

When it comes to math games with cards, Place Value War is a fantastic choice for building a strong understanding of place value. All you need is a deck of cards with face cards and 10s removed. Aces are worth 1. In this game, players turn over 1 or 2 cards and strategically place them to create the greatest number possible.

The players then compare their numbers. I like to have them say, “____is greater than ___”. For example, “23 is greater than 18” and the student with 23 wins all the cards for that turn. Place Value War reinforces place value concepts while really helping enhance critical thinking and number sense. Get ready for an exciting battle of numbers!

Student Gift Idea

If you are looking for a student gift that is affordable, this is the perfect purposeful gift for your learners. I snagged two sets of cards for $1.25 at Dollar Tree.

. I printed the math game instructions on colored paper, wrapped them around a deck of cards, and then tied it with a ribbon. It’s simple, and not time-consuming!
