February is full of so many holidays and is such a short month. There are many great books to read aloud in your classroom this month, including Presidents Day read aloud books. You have that teach about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and favorite read alouds that teach us what an election is, what makes a great president, and the value of hard work. Letโs look at several of my favorite engaging Presidents Day read aloud books you can use in your classroom to celebrate Presidentsโ Day!

Presidents Day Read Aloud Books
- The President of the Jungle– This was a new to me book this year that I really enjoyed! I love that it teaches so much about the election process. The animals are tired of Lion and decide to hold an election for president of their jungle. This is a great book to use to teach synthesizing in your classroom. - When Penny met POTUS– In this story, the main charactersโ mom works for the president of the United States. Penny hears the word POTUS but is not sure what it means. I I can relate to Penny for sure! Ha ha! This is a cute and clever story that your class will definitely enjoy! ย
- Presidentsโ Day– This book is set in a classroom that is putting on a Presidents’ Day assembly. It is an engaging book that teaches about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It also helps set the scene for Presidents’ Day in your classroom. What will you all do? How will you all celebrate? Will you even be in school? I used this one to teach authorโs purpose in this lesson HERE.

- Abe Lincoln Crosses a Creek– I came across this book last February and really enjoyed it. This book is about young Abraham Lincoln and his friend Austin. I I can honestly say that I haven’t read a president book like it before. It definitely is an adventure while also teaching you about Abraham’s life. You can use this book to practice asking questions with this lesson HERE.

- Grace Goes to Washington– This is a follow up book to Grace for President. This book teaches how the US government makes decisions and what it means to be a public servant. I love using this book to teach character traits & feelings with this lesson HERE. Definitely add it to your Presidents Day Read Aloud stash!
- Grace for President– One of my favorite books to read aloud in February. In this story, Grace learns about elections and the value of a vote. You can use this book to teach making connections! Find a ready to go lesson HERE.

- Duck for President– Everyoneโs favorite Duck is running for President! Duck is frustrated with how the farm is being run and decides to take over the farm in this funny book. I love using this book to teach visualizing! Find an engaging lesson HERE.

- George Washingtonโs Teeth– This book is written as a rhyme and shares about George Washingtonโs teeth. Have you ever had a Presidents Day read aloud about a presidents’ teeth? My kids thought this book was funny! You can use it to teach inferencing in your classroom, too!
