Problem Solving Problems!

I think they call it “problem solving” within the math realm for a reason!

Ya’ll, this is TOUGH for my kids! Maybe it’s the just the way the problems are worded and how they have to secretly solve for “x”….(HELLO ALGEBRA IN FIRST GRADE!!!), but it is just plain hard. After teaching it for 3 weeks, I settled on 4 activities that focused on skills my friends just were not mastering.  I used these activities in both whole group and small group.

Since I did this during Valentine’s Day week craziness, we used hearts as our cookies.  This goes along with the first activity in the packet, “Who Stole the Cookies?”

You can take a peak at Smart Cookie {a problem solving unit} by clicking on the picture below.

I also finished the next set of Science Foldables.  This unit is almost ALL about plants.  What I really love about the foldables is that they are a super quick and simple way to assess what we have learned that day.  Sometimes we just use them as an easy way to record our findings from investigations.

and now…if you have read this far….you can enter for a chance to WIN each of these! Winner #1 will win Smart Cookie and winner #2 will win the 4th set of Science Foldables.
