Halloween Writing Activity FREEBIE for Kinder and 1st Grade

The month of October is filled with so many fun themes from spiders to bats to pumpkins to Red Ribbon Week to Halloween! I feel like it kicks off the holiday season that just naturally ramps up the classroom excitement. Anytime you can bring these fun-filled events into the classroom while still giving students ways to practice their learning or engaging in learning a new skill, it’s a win! For Halloween, it’s the perfect time to help kids take their bottled-up excitement and channel that energy into a Halloween writing activity!

Do You Have a Writing Station?

If you don’t have a writing station set up as part of your literacy station rotations, I highly recommend it! It’s one of the easiest to set up and keep kids engaged. My number one tip for this station is to keep the routine the same, but change out the writing paper or writing utensil. I talk here about writer’s workshop and many of those tips are also great for a writing station!

Halloween Costume Read Alouds

If you’d like, you can add a fun read aloud book to the Halloween writing station freebie or use the Halloween writing freebie as a follow-up to a wonderful Halloween read aloud! Here are some of my favorite Halloween read alouds that incorporate dressing up and can get the conversation started.

Be sure to check out this blog post about how interactive read alouds benefit your students and how you can easily plan them!

I hope this Halloween writing activity freebie makes your week a little easier as you keep the craziness at bay as much as possible!

Happy Teaching,

Amanda
